SEPTEMBER 12-13,  2023

HAVE YOU NOTICED?    IT'S HARD NOT TO NOTICE.  IN THE LAST THREE OR FOUR DAYS THERE HAS BEEN A DRAMATIC CHANGE IN THE POLITICAL CONVERSATION IN WASHINGTON:  It may have begun with President Biden's embarrassing performance during his trip to Asia, and the reaction here at home.  Or, we may have noticed how mainstream liberal news organizations like CNN are getting serious about covering the Biden scandals, in part because House Republicans will now conduct a formal impeachment inquiry.

And then there was the latest polling, showing Biden/Harris sinking faster than the Titanic.  And then the body-blow column by Washington Post columnist David Ignatius, a mouthpiece for the Washington liberal establishment, calling for President Biden not to run for re-election.  And now a similar request by Republican 2012 presidential candidate Mitt Romney, in announcing his own retirement, recommending that the president join him in retirement.

And then there was the blunt question asked by a reporter at the latest White House press briefing:   Why does Joe Biden say so many things that aren't true?  It doesn't get much worse than that.

What was unspeakable in public only weeks ago has now become very speakable:  It is time to go, Mr. President, and time for you, too, Madam Vice President.  Some 70 percent of Democrats in a recent poll agreed.

It will not be easy.  Biden seems determined to go for it.  And, even if he could be persuaded to leave the Democratic ticket, in the interest of party victory, his logical successor would be an equivalent disaster.  Kamala Harris has flubbed it, and almost no one thinks of her as a president.  Maybe president of an eighth-grade student government.

I can't imagine Kamala going quietly, or even going at all.  She would have to be defeated in a primary race for the top job, president of the United States.  Who will take on a woman of color in the primaries?

With former President Trump heading for his first court trial, with the dam bursting all around Biden and Harris, 2024 is shaping up as the most dramatic presidential election in modern history.  And most of Washington has gotten the message.

May combat begin.

INFLATION IS JUST KILLING US:  The economic situation for the average household is getting worse, maybe dramatically worse.  This is the great, evil giant that too many in the political class refuse to confront.  From Fortune:

US inflation-adjusted household income fell in 2022 by the most in over a decade, highlighting the toll of a higher cost of living and the expiration of pandemic-era programs.

The median income last year was $74,580 compared with $76,330 in 2021, according to the Census Bureau’s annual reports on income, poverty and health insurance coverage.

The 2.3% drop in incomes — which was the most since 2010 — marked the third-straight annual decline, which has been a feature of past recessions like the global financial crisis, the dotcom bubble and the downturn in the early 1990s. Last year, American families faced the the largest annual increase in the cost-of-living adjustment in over four decades.

The report paints a concerning picture of the financial health of American families halfway through Joe Biden’s presidency. Even as the economy remains strong by many measures and inflation has cooled significantly from last year’s peak, it’s still proven a to be a political roadblock as Biden seeks a second term.

Tuesday’s data include two gauges of poverty. The official US poverty rate — which is calculated before taxes and excludes stimulus payments and tax credits — edged lower to 11.5% from 11.6% in the prior year. The rate has been roughly cut in half over the past six decades, and reached a record low before the pandemic.

However, the supplemental poverty measure — which is based on post-tax income and includes government-transfer payments like stimulus checks — rose to 12.4% last year. It was the first increase since 2010, which in part reflected the end of government pandemic-era programs and stimulus payments.

For children, the SPM rate more than doubled last year after the expiration of the advance child-tax credit. The benefit, which was expanded in 2021 as a part of Biden’s signature American Rescue Plan, gave families as much as $300 per child per month.

COMMENT:  Read the rest, and the fine print.  The impact of past inflation is still having a devastating effect on Americans.  It's only the rate of inflation that's going down.  Prices are not.  Maybe the Biden administration believes Americans are too stupid to figure that out.  They aren't, and many will vote accordingly.

There is a gloomy atmosphere in America right now.  It reminds me of 1979, when many Americans felt the country was in decline.  But along came Ronald Reagan to win the election of 1980.

We need a Reagan.  Any nominations?

SEPTEMBER 10-11,  2023

DAY OF REMEMBRANCE, AND DAY OF BETRAYAL:  What a White House we have.  Not only was the president absent from the continental United States on 9-11, but his administration chose this day to announce an act of betrayal of all we have been fighting for since the planes hit the towers.  It's hard to believe this.  From Fox:

The Biden administration has struck a deal with Iran to swap prisoners and release $6 billion in frozen Iranian funds.

Per the deal, Iran will release five American citizens detained in Iran and the U.S. release five Iranian citizens being held in the U.S.

The deal creates a blanket waiver to transfer $6 billion in frozen Iranian money from South Korea to Qatar without fear of violating U.S. sanctions. The United States classifies Iran as a state sponsor of terrorism.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken signed off on the deal late last week, but Congress was not notified of the decision until Monday, the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, according to the notification, which was obtained by The Associated Press.

The transfer of the $6 billion was the critical element in the prisoner release deal, which saw four of the five American detainees transferred from Iranian jails into house arrest last month. The fifth detainee had already been under house arrest.

Due to numerous U.S. sanctions on foreign banks that engage in transactions aimed at benefitting Iran, several European countries had balked at participating in the transfer. Blinken's waiver is aimed at easing their concerns about any risk of U.S. sanctions.

The deal has already begun to garner some criticism. Behnam Ben Taleblu, a senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies who focuses on Iranian security, argued that releasing the funds "will only feed Tehran's appetite to keep taking hostages."

"And as the case of the recently revealed Swedish diplomat illustrates, dual-nationals and foreign citizens are not the only targets. Tehran even intends to extort foreign government officials!" he said.

"Indeed, the Islamic Republic showcased for the world a willingness to take hostages less than a year since its inception. Worse, freeing-up the $6 billion forgets why it was frozen in the first place. Even the Obama administration, who signed sanctions bills into law creating those escrow accounts, did not trust Iran to stop funding its nuclear or military programs using oil money."

Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, argued that the $6 billion "payout" will go to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and its proxies.

COMMENT:  What an insult to the 9-11 families, and all the families of service members killed since the attacks.  And to make the announcement on the anniversary of 9-11?  What kind of government officials are we dealing with here?

Why does the name "Barack Obama" come to mind when we see sickening policies like this announced?  Because they come right out of his playbook.  Remember that he was the guy who wanted to drop the term "Islamic terrorism" from our vocabulary.  He wanted to rename terrorist attacks as "manmade disasters."

We can only imagine how the Iranians will use the funds we just freed up for them.  You know, it's impossible to predict the exact names of the casualties, but casualties there will be, and some are likely to be Americans.

Great style, President Biden.  Great style.

OH NOT AGAIN:  The president of the United States is a chronic liar, but our press, the "watchdog of democracy" (choke), just doesn't care.  From Fox:

President Biden claimed Monday, without evidence, that he stood at Ground Zero in New York City viewing the damage from the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks just one day later, despite records showing he was in Washington, D.C. that day.

"Ground Zero in New York — I remember standing there the next day and looking at the building. I felt like I was looking through the gates of Hell, it looked so devastating because the way you could — from where you could stand," Biden said during his speech at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska marking the devastating acts of terrorism 22 years ago.

However, according to C-SPAN coverage of U.S. Senate proceedings on September 12, 2001, Biden was in Washington, D.C. and gave a speech on the floor of the Senate. Records show the Senate met in the morning, and a classified briefing was held for all senators that afternoon at 2:00 p.m. ET.

Records also show Biden participated in a joint resolution vote condemning the terrorist attacks later that afternoon. Biden was the Democratic manager of the resolution.

According to a report by The New York Post, Biden also contradicted his own claim in his autobiography detailing his actions after the attacks. Biden said in the book that he "headed back to the Capitol" on September 12, and made no mention of visiting Ground Zero that day.

The report also noted a Gannett News Wire report from Sept. 12, 2001 stating, "Delaware Sen. Joe Biden spent Wednesday exactly where he wanted — in the U.S. Senate."

Fox News Digital reached out to the White House for comment, but its response pointed to Biden's visit to Ground Zero on September 20, 2001, and did not respond to questions pertaining to his claim he was there on September 12, 2001.

COMMENT:  Biden's history of making up things is well documented.  He probably can't be repaired.  But the casual acceptance of lies by a news organization can be repaired, but it will only happen if readers and viewers shut off that news organization.  The market works.  If a news outlet is failing in its basic function, to give the news without fear or favor, shut it down.

"The left needs two things to survive. It needs mediocrity, and it needs dependence. It nurtures mediocrity in the public schools and the universities. It nurtures dependence through its empire of government programs. A nation that embraces mediocrity and dependence betrays itself, and can only fade away, wondering all the time what might have been."
