SUBSCRIPTION DRIVE 2023

We're launching our first subscription drive of 2023.   When
Urgent Agenda began 15 years ago we had four drives a year.  We've reduced that to two.  But they must succeed if we are to maintain our seven-day-a-week service.

Why Urgent Agenda, with all the other political sites out there?  Our mission is to bring to our informed readership the best information and articles that we can find – facts that might be overlooked, reports that fill in what the mainstream media leaves out or fails to get right.  Most of our work is research, such as recently finding, and reporting to you, that large energy companies are working on new fuels that can run in current engines with dramatically lower emissions.  We also spotlight corrupt educational practices that can influence what our young generation will become.

Most subscribers join to support our work.  But there's a side benefit.  You'll receive our Forum, usually published once a week,  where we post entries from you and other subscribers.  I think you'll like it, and you'll have a voice.

But we need your help.  You can subscribe, or donate, by going to the section on the right called SUSCRIPTIONS, directly opposite these words.   I especially call your attention to SENDINC, the best and most efficient way to subscribe, with complete security.  But you can use PayPal as well.  Or, if you prefer to use standard paper checks, simply send us a note at service@urgentagenda.com and we'll tell you how.

These are critical times.  Many feel that the next few years will determine the future of our country.  Will we restore our greatness, or will we become a second-rate nation, watching others move past us?

Urgent Agenda will be there 365 days a year.  Please join us.

CAN THIS BE SERIOUS?  APPARENTLY IT IS.  NOTHING IS TOO ABSURD FOR THE ADMINISTRATION IN OFFICE.  FROM TRENDING POLITICS:

The Biden-Harris administration has named Vice President Kamala Harris as the new A.I. head with the task of leading the government’s efforts to mitigate the risks and harness the opportunities of artificial intelligence (AI) in America. This decision comes as part of the administration’s broader initiative to promote responsible innovation in AI and safeguard people’s rights and safety.

Kamala, in that job?  Are you getting as frightened as I am?

“AI is one of the most powerful technologies of our time, but in order to seize the opportunities it presents, we must first mitigate its risks,” stated the White House press release on Thursday. “When it comes to AI, we must place people and communities at the center by supporting responsible innovation that serves the public good, while protecting our society, security, and economy.”

As part of this initiative, Vice President Harris met with the CEOs of four American companies, Alphabet, Anthropic, Microsoft, and OpenAI, to underscore their responsibility in ensuring the safety and ethical use of their AI products before they are deployed or made public. The administration has also released a “Blueprint” for an AI Bill of Rights and an AI Risk Management Framework to promote responsible innovation.

The decision to name Harris as the A.I. lead has raised concerns among those who see this as another instance of government overreach and excessive regulation. Some argue that the government’s efforts to regulate AI innovation could stifle innovation and economic growth. Others also worry about Harris’s abilities to govern such technology. With a background in criminal justice and civil rights, she does not hold any experience in the field of artificial intelligence.

No experience in real intelligence either.

On Thursday Harris released a statement claiming her work against “Russian interference” in 2016 adds to her list of qualifications:

“As a United States Senator and member of the Intelligence and Judiciary Committees, we investigated Russian interference in the 2016 election and produced empirical evidence that state actors will use technology to undermine democracy.”

COMMENT:  Yup, state actors use technology.  What a concept!   With observations like that, can the Nobel Prize be far behind?

NOW THIS IS INTERESTING.  CAUTION:  IF YOU'RE A LEFTIST, THIS MAY PRODUCE A SEVERE MEDICAL REACTION.  FROM COLLEGE FIX:

The latest U.S. News & World Report concluded that Florida is the best state for higher education.

The rankings look at “the share of citizens in each state holding college degrees, as well as college graduation rates, the cost of in-state tuition and fees, and the burden of debt that college graduates carry,” according to the publication.

The publication also ranked Florida high in 2-year college graduation rate, 4-year college graduation rate and for its students graduating with minimal debt.

The honor comes after Republican Governor Ron DeSantis has sought to reorient public higher education in the state with the appointment of conservative trustees to the board of New College and the passage of legislation that limits woke “diversity, equity and inclusion” programming.

“Florida’s success would not be possible without the exceptional leadership at our 12 public universities, Gov. (Ron) DeSantis’s commitment to excellence in higher education and the unwavering support of our legislative leaders,” Brian Lamb, chair of the state university’s board of governors, stated. “I am truly grateful for their investment and continued support.”

He further stated:

By prioritizing student success, with an emphasis on providing all students a high-quality, low-cost education, Florida’s universities are leaning in to produce top-tier talent to meet workforce needs, increase research capabilities, and retain the best and brightest faculty whose excellence and expertise provide the platform from which we create the future.

The state has also invested in technical training and a Western Civilization center at the University of Florida, as previously reported by The College Fix.

COMMENT:  Delighted to see this.  Delighted that a state whose name is not California, New York or Massachusetts is recognized for educational excellence.  The  "nationally ranked" educators whom the news industry usually exalts are undoubtedly rushing to their shrinks this morning for comfort.  More than one visit may be necessary.

MAY 2-3,  2023

I'M SO GLAD WE KNOW:  I just don't know how I could live without these remarkable insights:  From Legal Insurrection:

The Colorado Education Association [CEA] reportedly passed a resolution that declares that “capitalism inherently exploits children, public schools, land, labor, and resources.”

A final version of the resolution that was passed states that “CEA believes that capitalism requires exploitation of children, public schools, land, labor, and/or resources. Capitalism is in opposition to fully addressing systemic racism (the school to prison pipeline), climate change, patriarchy, (gender and LGBTQ disparities), education inequality, and income inequality.

However, a screenshot captures an earlier draft of the resolution that included a call to replace capitalism with a “new equitable economic system.”

The screenshot of the original version of the resolutions reads “CEA believes that capitalism requires exploitation of children, public schools, land, labor, and/or resources and, therefore, the only way to fully address systemic racism (the school to prison pipeline), climate change, patriarchy (gender and LGBTQ disparities), education inequality, and income inequality is to dismantle capitalism and replace it with a new, equitable economic system.”

“We are constantly using band-aids and minor reforms to make things better, which is good, but the system itself is the problem, and it needs to be named,” a statement under the resolution reads.

A former federal official sent a screenshot of the original version to an outlet called The Lion, which obtained the document first. The Lion “sent the screenshot to Lauren Stephenson, director of communications at the CEA, who belatedly admitted to the original resolution. She sent the Lion the revised form of the resolution that passed the assembly.” The CEA had previously decided not to disclose the resolution, citing “process” and privacy concerns.

COMMENT:  What they're really concerned about is being found out.  This is what they're "teaching" to our kids.

We have to ask how these "teachers" became brainwashed in Communism in the first place.  The answer, of course, is the educational system, especially teachers' colleges.

Teachers aren't in school to impose their ideologies on students.  They're in school to teach subjects in a neutral and thorough manner.  But what are the chances of that when the teachers' unions run the schools and do everything they can to prevent parents from knowing what is actually going on?

HOW LOW CAN YOU GET?  Some psychiatric out-patients in the Democratic Party are actually threatening to remove the security around Supreme Court justices.  What comes next?  Stealing their children?  From Hot Air:

Well, I should have seen this coming, but I didn’t. Even I underestimate the willingness of the Democrats to use the threat of violence to force compliance with their demands.

According to both Senators Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley, 15 Democrats from the Judiciary Committee have sent a letter to the Appropriations Committee asking that funding for the security that defends the lives of the Supreme Court justices and their families be denied until the Court buckles to the demands of the Democrats.

As you have undoubtedly noticed, a smear campaign has been directed at the justices, particularly Justice Thomas. It became so vicious that Thomas’ colleagues took the extraordinary step of chastising the Democrats for their ridiculous smears against the Justice.

The Democrats are making demands that the Court accept a Code of Ethics being pushed by the Left, and apparently, they have threatened to withhold funding for the security details that protect the justices unless Chief Justice Roberts caves to their demands.

During a Senate Judiciary hearing on Supreme Court ethics reform, Sens. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and Josh Hawley, R-Mo., tore into their Democratic colleagues for “threatening to cut off the funding for the security at the Supreme Court,” as Cruz said.

“The Left is willing to threaten the lives of the justices,” said the Texas senator. “This is disgraceful.”

It’s an outrageous overreach, breaching the inviolable wall between the branches of government - dictating to the Court with what amounts to a death threat, given the level of vitriol and actual violence that has been directed at the conservative (and only the conservative) members of the Court.

COMMENT:  The people running the Democratic Party are part of the left-wing lunatic fringe that has gained far too much power in recent years.  They don't much like America, and they show it repeatedly.

NOT THE OLD CITY, NOT BY A LONG SHOT:  For those of you who like the film musicals of the 1930s, you'll remember Jeanette MacDonald belting out "San Francisco, open your golden gate," in the great movie about the great earthquake of 1906.

Where is Jeanette now that we need her again?  San Francisco is suffering a new kind of earthquake, manmade, destroying the city, tearing it to pieces.  And no one is singing.  People are too busy leaving.  From Fox Business:

Nordstrom will close both of its downtown San Francisco stores in the coming months, citing the "dynamics" of the downtown market as the region continues to see a rash of retail thefts by brazen thieves.

In a memo to employees, Chief Stores Officer Jamie Nordstrom said the company will not renew its lease for its San Francisco Centre Nordstrom store and the Market Street Rack store across the street.

We’ve spent more than 35 years serving customers in downtown San Francisco, building relationships with them and investing in the local community," the message said. "But as many of you know, the dynamics of the downtown San Francisco market have changed dramatically over the past several years, impacting customer foot traffic to our stores and our ability to operate successfully."

The last day of business for the Market Street Rack will be July 1, and the San Francisco Centre location will close at the end of August.

The Westfield mall, where the downtown Nordstrom is located, and its owner, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, said the closures "underscores the deteriorating situation in Downtown San Francisco," the San Francisco Standard reported.

"A growing number of retailers and businesses are leaving the area due to the unsafe conditions for customers, retailers, and employees, coupled with the fact that these significant issues are preventing an economic recovery of the area," a mall spokesperson said.

"[Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield] has actively engaged with city leaders for many years to express our serious concerns, which are shared by our customers and retailers. We have urged the city to find solutions to the key issues and lack of enforcement again," the statement added...

...The National Retail Federation’s 2022 retail security survey ranked San Francisco/Oakland as the second-most hard-hit metropolitan area by theft in 2020 and 2021, behind Los Angeles. New York City was third while Houston placed fourth.

COMMENT:  Jeanette, you're on.

"The left needs two things to survive. It needs mediocrity, and it needs dependence. It nurtures mediocrity in the public schools and the universities. It nurtures dependence through its empire of government programs. A nation that embraces mediocrity and dependence betrays itself, and can only fade away, wondering all the time what might have been."
