LIGHTS, ACTION, NOTHING:  Hollywood is murdering itself right before our eyes.  Now, you've read things like that before, and you've seen the latest messes from what used to be the film capital of the world.  A new article, though, reports that conditions in the industry are deteriorating rapidly, with a modern McCarthyism choking anyone trying to make a good movie.  This is strong stuff.  From Breitbart:

Hollywood’s “old boys club is dead,” writes the Free Press. “But a new one—with its own litmus tests and landmines—is rapidly replacing it. ‘This is all going to end in a giant class-action’.”

The outlet spoke to “more than 25 writers, directors, and producers—all of whom identify as liberal, and all described a pervasive fear of running afoul of the new [woke] dogma.”

“Best way to defend yourself against the woke is to out-woke everyone, including the woke,” one writer told the Free Press, which would go a long way towards explaining the self-humiliation Stephen King and Rob Reiner engage in daily by way of Twitter.

How do you out-woke the woke? Easy. “Suddenly, every conversation with every agent or head of content started with: Is anyone BIPOC attached to this?”

For those who don’t know, “BIPOC” stands for something-something people of color.

The result is McCarthyism 2.0:

“Everyone has gone so underground with their true feelings about things,” said Mike White, the writer and director behind the hit HBO comedy-drama “The White Lotus.” “If you voice things in a certain way, it can really have negative repercussions for you, and people can presume that you could be racist, or you could be seen as misogynist.”

Another writer, who, like most of the writers we interviewed, was afraid to speak openly for fear of never working again, said: “I get so paranoid about even phone calls. It’s so scary. My close friends and my family are just like, ‘Don’t say anything.’ It is one of those things, ‘Will I be able to sleep at night if I say anything?’ Getting jobs in this town is so hard, and I’m very grateful to have a great job. If there’s any so-called ding on my record, that would just be an argument against hiring me.”

It is, said Sam Wasson, the author of “The Big Goodbye: Chinatown and the Last Years of Hollywood,” not so different from the McCarthy era, when everyone in Hollywood professed to believe something that they thought everyone outside Hollywood—the country, their audience—believed. “Hollywood was never anti-Communist,” Wasson said. “It just pretended to be. In fact, Hollywood was never anti- or pro- anything. It was show business. There’s no morality here.”

One industry professional after another tells the Free Press that managers and agents constantly tell them that the production is not hiring white men.

“Now, they’ll just say, ‘Sorry, diversity quotas. We’re just not allowed to hire you,’” a white male comedy writer explained. He says his agent also dumped him.

One writer showed the Free Press email proof of the open discrimination.

“This one a dead end — they are going to limit the search to women and bipoc candidates,” read one email. Another said, “There are some internally that don’t like the idea of hiring a white guy. I wish I had a better way to frame it. Hate this s.....” One more laid it out in just a few words, “Studio now telling us this job must go to a female / bipoc writer. Sorry — it sucks.”

Some have pushed back on this notion by saying there is no discrimination. Blaming “woke” is just an easy excuse for an agent or manager who failed to do his job, they say.

But.

The racist left isn’t exactly in hiding.

“I don’t care if white people aren’t comfortable because black people are uncomfortable all the f...... time.” One black television writer said, “I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to bite my tongue so as not to offend white sensibilities, so I don’t give a s... if they’re nervous.”

Has this affected the product or the quality of the art? Easy answer. Have you gone to the movies or watched TV lately?

COMMENT:  Do read the whole thing.  America used to love Hollywood.  Now the country is beginning to despise it.  There are still some people who remember the age of Hollywood greatness.  The golden age.  It is gone, with no guarantee that it will ever return.

I've worked in Hollywood.  In truth, the industry started deteriorating decades ago.  Frank Sinatra even got up at an Oscar ceremony in the early sixties and warned that the wrong crowd was taking over.  ABC did a documentary in the early seventies called, I believe, "Whatever Happened to Hollywood?"  The decline has been slow and steady.  The great British director, David Lean, complained that Hollywood had forgotten how to tell stories.  But there were always enough people struggling to make movies for actual audiences.  Wokeness may kill them off as well.

REPUBLICANS ARE SET TO INTENSIVELY INVESTIGATE THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION:  They are making it clear that their real target is the president, not his son.  From BizPacReview:

As Democrats and their corporate media allies have been gearing up for the inevitable defense of President Joe Biden’s son Hunter during the new Congress, incoming House Oversight Committee chair Rep. James Comer (R-KY) made one point abundantly clear, Sunday, “We’re not investigating Hunter Biden. We’re investigating Joe Biden.”

Republicans are officially in charge of the House of Representatives, have elected a speaker and are set to proceed with promised investigations this week. As such, NBC’s Chuck Todd framed the inevitable efforts as partisan when Comer joined him on “Meet the Press” Sunday morning.

“It looks more partisan than professional,” he said before asking how, if at all, Comer looked to negate those perceptions, prompting the congressman to fire back, “I think the only people that see this as a partisan investigation are the media and the hardcore Democrats.”

“Look, at the same moment that the Democrats on the Ways and Means Committee released Donald Trump’s taxes they then, moments later, turned around and said that Comer’s investigation of the Biden family influence peddling is a revenger,” the Kentucky lawmaker proceeded.

Going on to cite a Harvard poll that said 65 percent of Americans believe the contents of the laptop from hell should be investigated, Comer expressed, “Let me be clear. We’re not investigating Hunter Biden. We’re investigating Joe Biden.”

The Oversight Committee leader went on to frame his position by calling out Democratic complaints over former President Donald Trump having family like his son-in-law Jared Kushner working in his administration and explained, “I think any American who has kept up with the political process over the past two administrations would agree, we need to know what is allowable and what isn’t allowable with respect to foreign adversarial intervention among family members of presidents of the United States.”

COMMENT:  Let the gladiators out of the gates.  This will be fun, but it will also be critically important.  The mainstream media will not investigate the Biden empire, and the houses of Congress have both been in Democratic hands since Biden was sworn in.  Now the GOP controls the House of Representatives, and with it the vast investigative power of Congress.  For the first time we'll get a good look at Biden, Inc.  Will it knock the president out of the race?  Stay tuned.

THE JOB AHEAD:  Now that we have a speaker of the House, Congress can move forward, or backward, however you see it.

But out in the real country, the actual story of America is being written.  The condition of the nation is precarious.  People are hurting.   And help is not guaranteed to be on the way.  And our citizens feel it.

Crime is a major, and growing, issue.  We are seeing a frightening breakdown in the concept of a nation of laws.  As a prime example, look at New York, America's supposedly premiere city.  We thought New York had brought violent crime under control during the Giuliani and Bloomberg mayoralties.  The improving statistics, year by year, gave us hope.  But the beast is back, as are Democratic mayors.  You think there's a connection?  From Daily Mail:

The New York City Police Department has released its annual round-up of crime over the past year - and it has revealed that crime is up in virtually every category, despite recent assertions from the city's mayor.

The statistics paint a bleak picture of the city's efforts to address crime that's rocketed since the pandemic - a campaign that has been touted as successful several times over the past year by Mayor Eric Adams.

However, statistics show the politician - who ran on promises of addressing violence on the city's streets and is now entering his second year as mayor - was mistaken.

The data, released by the department Wednesday, comes exactly two weeks after Adams assured citizens that officials had taken strides in the unrest, while touting supposed gains in public safety.

Adams, who himself is a former NYPD police captain, unveiled his 'Blueprint to End Gun Violence' early last year, along with a 'Subway Safety Plan' - both of which have so far proved largely ineffective, according to the new statistics.

The data shows that rapes, robberies, and assaults are all up from last year, since hitting highs not seen in decades in both 2020 and 2021.

Rape - which rocketed in 2020 when streets were empty and unemployment rife due to unrest caused by the coronavirus - rose by 7 percent, with more than 120 occurring this year than last.

Robberies, meanwhile, rose a shocking 20 percent, despite recent measures taken by Adams, 62, to increase police presence throughout the city.

Assaults and theft throughout the city, meanwhile, show a similarly pronounced rise, with felony assaults up 12 percent - 26,039 incidents this year compared to 22,835 seen last year - and burglaries up an alarming 25 percent.

All other crime categories - including grand larceny and motor vehicle theft - showed similar rises except for murders, despite the outset of the pandemic coming now nearly three years ago.

The statistics directly contradict repeated statements from Adams that New York - which saw incidents of violence and shootings swell to historic highs in 2020 when its streets were hollowed out by lockdowns - was well on the path to recovery, the most recent of which came just last month.

'Anyone who studies crimes, they know what it’s about,' the mayor began, speaking at a presser in Midtown. 'How do we continue to trend in the right direction?'

He added that he and his team, upon taking office nine months into the pandemic, had known it 'wouldn’t happen overnight.'

'But we pushed ahead in spite of that,' he continued, before citing statistics that showed recent headway cops have made in quelling murders and shootings.

'New York remains — and people sometimes forget this, but I really want to highlight this,' Adams said, 'the safest big city in America.'

He went on to add: 'And in 2023, we want to push this city to be safer.”

COMMENT:  It may well be that New York remains "the safest big city in America," but people ask, "Compared to what?"  Thousands of crime victims care little for numbers.  And residents feel crime.  They feel it around them.  It affects their everyday decisions.  It guides things like allowing children outside to play.  It destroys communities and forces us to live in fear.  Mayor Adams may be well-meaning, but he doesn't get it.

"The left needs two things to survive. It needs mediocrity, and it needs dependence. It nurtures mediocrity in the public schools and the universities. It nurtures dependence through its empire of government programs. A nation that embraces mediocrity and dependence betrays itself, and can only fade away, wondering all the time what might have been."
