SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT:

SOUND FAMILIAR? – FROM WESTERN JOURNAL:   The Democratic Party of Virginia has filed a lawsuit contending that hundreds of thousands of mail-in ballots could be caught up in the glacially-paced USPS mail delivery system, threatening to disenfranchise masses of voters and impact the commonwealth’s tight gubernatorial race.  Last week, the party filed a lawsuit claiming that as many as 300,000 Virginians intend to cast their ballots in Tuesday’s critical election by mail, but local USPS branches have failed to deliver ballots in time for voters to fill them out and return them by the deadline.  “Thousands of absentee ballots currently sit at postal facilities throughout the Commonwealth, unprocessed for weeks on end,” the suit alleges, according to The Washington Times.  The USPS, for its part, insists that no such delays have occurred, and CNN reported Friday that it has agreed to provide daily election mail reports to all concerned parties.  “The Postal Service has a robust and tested process for the proper handling and timely delivery of Election Mail. Our Election Mail processes and procedures are fully operational in Virginia. We are not aware of any processing delays of any ballots within our facilities nor any ballot delivery delays, and we have fully communicated this information to election officials,” the agency’s public relations representative Martha Johnson told the Times in an email.  If the Republicans take the governorship in a close contest, I wouldn't be shocked to see the Democrats hang the election up in court filings.  The press, which trashed President Trump for daring to suggest that the 2020 election was rigged, will suddenly discover new flaws in the voting system.

SAD DECLINE OF A PRESIDENT – OVERNIGHT:  New numbers, even when read over the air by the dreadfully liberal Chuck Todd, give us a grim picture of where President Biden stands, or stumbles, with the American people.  From Breitbart:

NBC anchor Chuck Todd debuted a new poll on Sunday’s broadcast of “Meet the Press” which showed 71 percent of Americans believe America is on the wrong track.

Todd said, “We have a brand new NBC news poll out this morning still with some scary news for the Democrats. The overarching message, Americans have lost their confidence in President Joe Biden and their optimism for the country. At least they have right now. Just 22% of adults say we are headed in the right direction. A shocking 71% say we’re on the wrong track and that includes a near majority of Democrats who are saying that.”

He continued, “President Biden’s approval rating stands at a dismal 42% versus 54% who disapprove.

Believe it or not, just two months ago Mr. Biden was in positive territory, 49 approving. So what’s pulling down the president’s numbers? Look at this set of numbers, just 37% say he has the ability to handle a crisis versus a majority who say he does not. Thirty-seven percent also say he’s competent and effective as president. 50% disagree with that description. What’s more, Republicans, believe it or not, have double-digit leads in dealing with border security, inflation, crime, national security, the economy, and, shockingly, on getting things done. Democrats hold generally smaller double-digit leads on dealing with climate change, the coronavirus, education, and abortion. That’s really it right now.”

COMMENT:  The president's physical condition was apparently not discussed, but it is one of the most important factors in his presidency.  He just doesn't come off as a man whose health is strong enough to carry a presidency.

Obviously, things can change for the better, but they can also change for the worse.  There is no sense of optimism that Biden can get past his current troubles and go on to lead the country  He seems like a downhill kind of guy.

And if he can no longer carry on?  The very name "President Kamala Harris" sends waves of dread through large numbers of the American people.

Who wants to be a Democrat these days?

SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT:

THE PHONIES – FROM FOX:   Fox News contributor Lisa Boothe called climate change a "limousine liberal issue" on "The Big Saturday Show" in the aftermath of President Joe Biden traveling through Rome in an 85-vehicle motorcade before the COP26 UN Climate Change Conference on Sunday.  "The issue of climate change is a limousine liberal issue," Boothe said. "The Republican Party has turned into the party for the American worker, and Democrats are the party for coastal elites. This issue alone underscores that point."  Boothe also cited Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., illegally parking her "$59,000" Tesla outside of a Whole Foods store and U.S. climate envoy John Kerry "exclusively fl[ying] private" as examples of "limousine liberal issues…[that] hurt hardworking Americans the most."  "If Democrats actually cared about emissions, they would look toward things like natural gas, nuclear power as well," she continued. "But they don't care about these issues. They don't care about emissions. All they care about is virtue-signaling to their other limousine liberal friends."  We can only look with sadness at what the Democratic Party has become.  It isn't really an American party any longer.  More like something out of failed European socialism.  A new center-right party is seriously needed to keep our politics reasonably sane.

CHICKENS COMING HOME TO ROOST – OVERNIGHT:  See those illegal immigrants coming across our southern border?  Ever wonder where they wind up?  From the New York Post:

America’s crisis at the border is now a crisis in New York public schools.

The Biden Administration is flooding New York City and Long Island communities with thousands of unaccompanied immigrant minors captured crossing the Mexico-US border, often arriving here, as The Post recently reported, via clandestine flights in the middle of the night.

The arrival of these children, mostly teenage boys, in local schools is creating a classroom crisis that is strapping educational resources, costing taxpayers millions in un-budgeted dollars, and aiding gang-recruiting efforts, argue parents, teachers and immigration experts.

“We’re at maxed capacity for kids with special needs, but they’ll keep sending them,” lamented one high school teacher in Queens, among the communities hardest hit by the illegal-immigrant student dump.

New York City and Long Island are hotspots for shipping children rounded up illegally crossing the border without guardians, according to recent US Department of Health and Human Services data.
Fifteen counties nationwide have received more than 1,000 unaccompanied children caught at the border over the past year, reported HHS. The top five counties on the list are all in Texas, California and south Florida.

But four of those 15 counties are right here in New York: Suffolk (1,528), Queens (1,314), Nassau (1,064) and Brooklyn (1,046). The Bronx nearly made the list, with 461 unaccompanied students.

New York is the only state in America with four counties receiving more than 1,000 unaccompanied minors, despite its 1,700-mile distance from the southern border.

Data suggests that around 2,000 young migrants have arrived at Westchester County Airport just since August 8.

The 1,528 children released into Suffolk County is sixth most of any county in the nation. The HHS list includes only those counties that received 50 or more minors for the 11-month period from Oct. 1, 2020 through Aug. 31, 2021. Manhattan and Staten Island were not on the list.

These numbers are on top of the legal and illegal immigrant children arriving, or who already live here, with parents or a guardian. An estimated 504,000 undocumented immigrants live in New York City, according to a 2020 report by the city’s Department of Education.

The surge in migrant crossings during the Biden Administration has included a reported 125,000 unaccompanied minors.

The resulting influx of unaccompanied children into local schools becomes “a giant unfunded mandate and enormously unfair to the communities that are forced to accommodate these kids,” said Jessica Vaughan, the director of policy for the Center for Immigration Studies. “It causes enormous challenges for the schools, a disruption in the quality of education for all and sometimes even a crime problem that wasn’t there before.”

One Brooklyn teacher said his ninth-grade English language arts class this year has 13 children from Ecuador alone, noting that educators are not privy to a child’s legal status.

“I think it’s good for New York City because our enrollment numbers are going down. The school lost students during the pandemic,” the teacher said. “This kind of evens out the enrollment.”

But unaccompanied immigrant children often surprise administrators, teachers, students and parents when they show up suddenly at local schools, many with special education needs, minimal school time at home, and unable to speak English. Some of these children, from indigenous Central American cultures, don’t speak Spanish either, notes Vaughan.

COMMENT:  We have nothing against the kids, of course.  It isn't their fault that they're pushed across the border.  But how unfair this whole process is – unfair to American children, and to American taxpayers.  The Biden administration is grossly negligent.  I think it sees these illegals as potential Democratic Party voters.  I guess the next step we'll see is the lowering of voting standards.  No citizenship required.

"The left needs two things to survive. It needs mediocrity, and it needs dependence. It nurtures mediocrity in the public schools and the universities. It nurtures dependence through its empire of government programs. A nation that embraces mediocrity and dependence betrays itself, and can only fade away, wondering all the time what might have been."
