SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT:

THE SKY IS FALLING, THE SKY IS FALLING – OVERNIGHT:  In a way, this is child abuse.  From Newsbusters:    As the COP26 climate summit raged in Glasgow, Scotland, the past couple of weeks, PBS churned out plenty of taxpayer-funded doom and gloom predictions, and, at worst, even seemed to defend the irrational "climate anxiety" felt by some school children who have sadly been indoctrinated by the liberal media on the issue.  On Wednesday's show PBS NewsHour, anchor Judy Woodruff relayed results from a poll commissioned by PBS NewsHour and Generation Lab, finding that substantial percentages of children believe climate change will effect important life issues for them later on like having children or where they live.   The show then devoted eight minutes to the issue by showing a pre-recorded piece by correspondent William Brangham. One high school student featured in the piece, Sofia Palau, recalled suffering from panic attacks, and having difficulty studying for the ACT because she kept thinking of the "impending doom."  What a terrible thing to do to children, and all based on theories and predictions that have been shown to be wobbly.  And we call ourselves advanced.

THE CRUMBLING CONTINUES, DAY BY DAY – OVERNIGHT:  The Biden administration is in freefall.  It isn't just one poll or two.   Similar numbers are showing up everywhere.  The public shift is serious, fueled by anger, and possibly permanent.  From Daily Caller:

“As things stand, if the midterm elections were today, 51 percent of registered voters say they’d support the Republican candidate in their congressional district, 41 percent the Democrat,” reads a press release from Langer Research, which conducted the poll for ABC News/Washington Post.

“That’s the biggest lead for the Republicans in 110 ABC/Post polls to ask this question since November 1981. Indeed, it’s only the second time the GOP has held a statistically significant advantage (the other was +7 points in January 2002) and the ninth time it’s held any numerical edge at all.”

Independents, who are often considered the swing vote in elections, would support the GOP candidate by a 50-32 percent margin. This is notable considering they voted +12 points for the Democratic Party in the 2018 elections, which were the most recent midterm election.

New WaPo poll: Biden approval sinks to 38% (new low), GOP leads in generic ballot by TEN points (51 to 41) among registered voters. https://t.co/teNHqtoTsR

The same poll also shows widespread economic anxiety among Americans. With inflation running at a 30-year high, 70% of Americans say the U.S. economy is in bad shape. That is up from 58% earlier this spring.

Biden’s approval rating has also fallen in the poll to 41%, which matches the generic congressional ballot voter preferences for Democrats. This is down from his approval rating in a recent CNN poll which showed his overall approval rating at 48%.

Biden’s rating is at an all time low for his career among nearly all demographic groups. Independent voters give Biden just 35% approval. However, 63% support the recently passed infrastructure bill and 58% favor the Build Back Better bill.

And there's this, from hotair.com:

A new Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll has some bad news for Joe Biden. In a hypothetical matchup between Trump and Biden in 2024, Trump is favored by eleven points. The real question should be whether or not either of the two men is going to run in 2024.

Both Joe Biden and Donald Trump have indicated they will run in 2024. Biden even told reporters in March during his first news conference that he plans to run for reelection but that was just two months into his term and what was he going to say at that point? Biden said, “The answer is yes, my plan is to run for reelection. That’s my expectation.” Since then his approval with voters has plummeted. There is a lot of buyer’s remorse out there.

Trump remains popular with Republican voters. Trump won Iowa in 2020 by eight percentage points over Biden – 53% to 45%. Trump has not left the stage since Biden was sworn in as president and he sure sounds as though he is seriously considering another run. Biden’s approval with Iowa voters is at its lowest ebb since taking office.

COMMENT:  We stress once again that these polls are snapshots in time.  Biden's numbers can change if he starts getting things right, although he has not yet achieved that art.  And both economic and foreign conditions can change for the better.  Luck is also involved.

Republicans are on a good path to an impressive victory in the 2022 midterms.  Those elections, though, are a year off.  Take the current numbers simply as a guide to trends.  We have the right to smile.

SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT:

WE WAIT ON HER EVERY WORD – OVERNIGHT:  Vice President Harris speaks on American foreign policy, for a bit.  From Daily Mail:   Vice President Kamala Harris told French reporters that America remains 'very concerned' about Russia outside of a shop in Paris on Saturday after buying pots and skillets.  As the Biden administration warned of an imminent threat in Eastern Europe over fears of a Ukraine invasion amidst an escalating crisis at the Belarus-Poland border, Harris strolled through Paris with her husband, Doug Emhoff.  When asked about the Russia-Ukraine conflict the vice president said: 'I cannot talk to you about classified information' and went on to express her concerns on the crisis.   But it wasn't the first time Harris has voiced worries about Russian military movements amid the tense immigrant crisis in Belarus that has the potential to spill over into other countries in Europe.  Harris said the 'eyes of the world' are on the Belarus border as the Biden administration waded into the chaos in Eastern Europe.  Okay, she opened her mouth on a serious subject, even with pots and pans in her hands.  Part of her objective on this trip, we read, is to assure Americans that she is ready to take over as president. Her comments are a good start, but she has a vast distance to go.  And she should discuss foreign policy from behind a desk or a lectern.  The pots and pans won't scare any enemy.

ANTI-CRT IS MULTIRACIAL – OVERNIGHT:  The objections raised against critical race theory by African American scholars and commentators is almost completely ignored by the mainstream media.  It is another of journalism's disgraces.  From Fox:

Columbia professor and author John McWhorter discusses Condoleezza Rice’s criticism of critical race theory on her last appearance on ‘The View.’

Columbia University professor and author John McWhorter said on Friday that former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's criticism of critical race theory was correct.

"She's dead, right," the author of "Woke Racism" told "The Brian Kilmeade Show."

The former secretary of state, who served during the Bush administration, denounced the teaching of critical race theory (CRT) in schools, declaring that Black children could be completely empowered without making White children feel bad for their race.

During a guest host appearance on ABC's "The View," Rice, the first Black woman to head the State Department, cited her experience growing up in segregated Birmingham, Alabama, as she argued that young children didn't need to be taught CRT and parents needed to have a say in their children's education.

Rice clashed with co-host Sunny Hostin, who claimed, without evidence, that some parents were seeking to prevent their children from learning the "real" history of America and reaching a point of "true racial reconciliation."

"Come on now," Rice said.

"People are being taught the true history, but I just have to say one more thing: It goes back to how we teach the history. We teach the good and we teach the bad of history. But what we don’t do is make 7- and 10-year-olds feel that they are somehow bad people because of the color of their skin," she added. "We've been through that, and we don't need to do that again for anyone."

McWhorter said that it is "true" that critical race theory was originally formed by legal scholars in 1981 and that is not the version being taught in schools. However, he explained further that the "underpinnings of the ideology" are being pushed in public education.

"And Condoleezza Rice is not crazy to refer to that. I'm not crazy to gather the news, stories, and the countless anecdotes I have from schools at practically every state of this country, saying that that sort of thing is influencing the way things are being taught," he added.

McWhorter said that calling out the issue of teaching critical race theory is unfairly seen by some as "not battling racism."

"So you're supposed to pretend that it isn't happening. But it is, and I don't want my children affected by it, and I don't want this country's intellectual culture to be based on that one thing. It's not that the one thing isn't true. There was slavery. There was racism, and there's still some now. But for that to be the main thing that an education is about, instead of teaching people to think. I say no, I as a Black person do not need that transformation on the behalf of Black people who need help, and neither do they," McWhorter said.

COMMENT:  Wonderfully stated.  I do not see black parents marching through the streets of their towns asking for more critical race theory.  From what I've seen, a great chunk of the support for CRT comes from white radicals in our universities and teachers colleges, and parts of the media.  If the CRT crowd wins, America loses, and black America loses the most of all.  But the actual fate of black children is of little interest to Marxists and other leftists.  They see students of all colors as potential foot soldiers in the army of the woke.  Who can top that for importance?

"The left needs two things to survive. It needs mediocrity, and it needs dependence. It nurtures mediocrity in the public schools and the universities. It nurtures dependence through its empire of government programs. A nation that embraces mediocrity and dependence betrays itself, and can only fade away, wondering all the time what might have been."
