SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE - OVERNIGHT:

GREAT START – FROM TOWNHALL:   Earlier this week, the State Government Leadership Foundation (SGLF) launched its six-figure "Tale of Two Americas" ad campaign to highlight the stunning contrast between how states run by Republican leaders and those run by Democrats fare when it comes to issues such as economic opportunity, academic achievement, and safety in their communities: "Our country is a tale of two Americas. We have opportunity or hardship. Education or indoctrination. Rule of law or lawlessness. Strength or weakness. Liberal failures are hurting Americans. Conservative ideas are moving us forward. Which America do you want to live in? pic.twitter.com/vshGRyvsj2— State Government Leadership Foundation (SGLF) (@theSGLF)" That's the spirit. Exactly the right message. Always do contrasts. Their way versus our way. And I hope our side gives price contrasts: "Price of gas, $4.50 a gallon; Trump price, $2.79." That'll get 'em.

THE BEASTS OF THE LAST FEW YEARS ARE COMING BACK - OVERNIGHT, FROM FOX:

The resource-strapped Portland Police Bureau (PPB) reportedly took more than 20 minutes to respond when alleged Antifa members assaulted a Saturday campaign event near police headquarters in downtown Portland.

By the time officers had "sufficient resources" to establish a crime scene near Southwest 3rd and Main Street, the black-clad demonstrators had already dispersed after hurling smoke grenades, paint-filled balloons and fireworks, according to police. Two were injured by "mortars," police said.

The protesters' violence cut short the event in support of Republican gubernatorial candidate Stan Pulliam, whose platform includes refunding the police.

"This is what happens when a Republican dares to hold an event in Portland to talk about funding our police. Antifa shows up," Pulliam tweeted along with footage of the incident.

Pulliam also claimed the "underfunded police didn't show in time to allow our free speech."

Speaking to media after the incident, Pulliam said what he and his supporters experienced is what "neighbors throughout the Portland community have to experience on almost a daily basis."

"We called the police, we called 911," he said. "In fact, at the Justice of Peace Center, we were just outside of their headquarters, sat on hold for over 20 minutes. No police officers ever arrive until the very end, just to take our statement."

Pulliam contrasted when Portland had 30 officers per 100,000 people in the 1970s to the present-day ratio of eight per 100,000.

"And then we wonder why we have all the violence and destruction happening on our streets," he added.

A statement from the PPB confirmed that while a sergeant began monitoring the situation and gathering available resources, there "were only a few officers available in the precinct."
The incident came the same day PPB released a separate statement describing Friday night into Saturday as "an extraordinarily busy evening of significant events" that strained their resources. The night included five shootings, three serious crashes and one stolen ambulance within a 12-hour span.

COMMENT: The sad fact is that too many Americans, especially "sophisticates" in large cities, have gotten used to this scandal and see it as a bump in the road toward "equity."  It's not.  It's exactly what it appears to be – organized destruction and fascism pretending to be "progressive."

Americans will have a chance to take on some of the Portlands in the November election. Common sense may actually prevail.

DESTRUCTION OF THE DEMS – OVERNIGHT: The White House correspondents had their dinner, and not many people cared.  The aroma around Washington is the aroma of political death.   A latest, detailed poll from NPR tells us why.  From Townhall:

Just how doomed are Democrats in November's midterms? It doesn't take a statistician to read the writing on the wall — inflation sitting at 40-year highs, gas reaching an all-time high, a woke Democrat-education complex running amok, and an open border that's triggered drug, humanitarian, and public health crises — and see that the party in power of the executive and legislative branches is in trouble.

A new poll out from NPR and Marist shows just how bad Democrats are doing and among which groups their support is trailing GOP candidates by double-digits on the generic congressional ballot question that asks "If this year's election for Congress were held today, which party's candidate are you more likely to vote for in your district?"

Notably, the poll found 52 percent of latino voters would vote for a Republican compared to 39 percent who would choose a Democrat. For voters who have children under 18 years old, 60 percent said they'd vote for the GOP candidate while just 32 percent said they'd pick a Democrat. More voters under 45 years old also broke for Republicans (50 percent) over Democrats (40 percent).

Overall, 47 percent of voters surveyed said they'd choose the Republican candidate while 44 percent said they'd vote for the Democrat. More registered Democrat voters said they'd vote for a Republican in the midterms (7 percent) than Republican voters who would vote to send a Democrat to Congress (3 percent). Among independents, 45 percent said they'd opt for the Republican candidate compared to 38 percent who said they'd vote for the Democrat. Ten percent said they're still unsure with a few months left before November's midterms.

When it comes to education level, non-college educated voters were more likely to vote Republican (51 percent) than Democrat (37 percent) while college graduates showed the opposite with 53 percent saying they'd vote for Democrats to 41 percent who'd vote Republican.

COMMENT: What's so striking is that the Democratic Party seems little interested in why they're being beaten up so badly.  Theirs is a true faith, not bothered by reality.   They will walk off the plank rather than concede error.  And then bill the taxpayers for the plank.

Look at those numbers for Latinos. Look at those numbers for people who have kids under 18.
Look at those numbers for voters under 45.  How can a party sustain this?  I weep for them.  I am weeping now.  I will send a CARE package to every Democrat.

"The left needs two things to survive. It needs mediocrity, and it needs dependence. It nurtures mediocrity in the public schools and the universities. It nurtures dependence through its empire of government programs. A nation that embraces mediocrity and dependence betrays itself, and can only fade away, wondering all the time what might have been."
