SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT:

ONE HEARTBEAT AWAY – FROM FOX:  Oh, the embarrassment.  I mean, enough already: Vice President Kamala Harris went viral once again, this time for remarks she made during a White House event alongside Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness. During Wednesday's event, Harris and Holness touted relations between the U.S. and Jamaica and offered highlights of what was discussed in their meeting. However, the vice president raised eyebrows when she attempted to explain how the U.S. was going to assist the Caribbean nation from the negative impacts of the pandemic. "We also recognize just as it has been in the United States, for Jamaica, one of the issues that has been presented as an issue that is economic in the way of its impact has been the pandemic," Harris said. "So to that end, we are announcing today also that we will assist Jamaica in COVID recovery by assisting in terms of the recovery efforts in Jamaica that have been essential to, I believe, what is necessary to strengthen not only the issue of public health but also the economy." Harris was panned on social media for what they described as "word salad." "Ok seriously, is she punking us?" asked Abigail Marone, press secretary of Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., "Like it has to be a joke at this point." "This is the definition of 'word salad.' It's practically word goulash," David Martosko of Daily Mail TV quipped. She must secretly be ordered to attend a remedial English class three times a week. The nation's future may depend on it.

OCCASIONALLY, THERE IS A GREAT JUDGE WHO UNDERSTANDS WHAT JUSTICE IS ABOUT – FROM PJ MEDIA OVERNIGHT:

A federal judge blasted U.S. prosecutors seeking excessive sentences for some nonviolent participants in the Capitol riot, pointing to the treatment of BLM rioters as an example of a clear double standard.

“I know that the government believes that the January 6th cases are sui generis [one of a kind] and therefore can’t be compared to other cases. But I don’t agree,” said U.S. District Judge Trevor N. McFadden.

“It does feel like the government has had two standards here, and I can’t abide by that,” he added, noting that before January 6, he couldn’t remember an instance where  a nonviolent, first-time offender was “sentenced to serious jail time … regardless of their race, gender or political affiliation.”

McFadden expressed his views during the sentencing of a defendant who pleaded guilty to misdemeanor trespassing. The Biden administration called for her to be sentenced to 75 days in jail and one year of probation, which McFadden believed to be excessive. “The government’s sentencing recommendation here is just so disproportionate to other sentences for people who have engaged in similar conduct,” he said.

Instead, McFadden sentenced her to two months probation and a $5,000 fine. McFadden noted the same U.S. prosecutor’s office that recommended jail time for the J6 defendant sought a much lighter sentence for a Code Pink activist with a lengthy criminal record who infiltrated Brett Kavanaugh’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearings in September 2018.

McFadden also noted that last fall, government prosecutors treated pro-Trump rioters more harshly than violent BLM rioters in Washington, D.C. back in 2020, after the death of George Floyd.

COMMENT: I have no doubt that the left will now label the judge a fascist, racist, homophobe and hater of golden retrievers. But maybe, when the conservatives take over Washington, they will remember Judge McFadden and his wisdom, and elevate him to a higher court, where he belongs. The man understands the real world.

SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT:

THE GOOD GUYS – FROM FOX: Thousands of law enforcement officers across the country are donating personal body armor and other protective gear to Ukrainians. As war continues to rage on, members of Ukrainian law enforcement and civilians need, and in many cases are running out of, personal protective equipment. "We want to make sure that these counterparts overseas have the resources and we're supporting them to make them a safer nation," Larry Cosme, the president of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association, told Fox News. FLEOA is the largest nonprofit, nonpartisan federal law enforcement association in the country. Cosme says his organization is working with federal and local partners to get the equipment to Ukraine as soon as possible. "It's an overwhelming response. We can't keep up with the pace of the amount of equipment we are receiving," Cosme said. Cosme says body armor, including helmets, vests and goggles, are being donated. Medical supplies and boots are also on the list. Weapons are not legally allowed to be transferred. The donations come from the personal collection of members of the law enforcement community. Watch – the Squad will say that the Russians are being subjected to police brutality.

RON THE GIANT KILLER – OVERNIGHT:  Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is emerging as a presidential-level competitor and issue creator for the Republican Party. Denounced by the far left as a dummy and a bigot – he's actually Yale and the Harvard Law School – he has his finger on the pulse of the people.  His policies are popular, and they work. He is up to date, and knows what voters are concerned about in 2022.  He can go all the way. From Breitbart:

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is crushing his potential Democrat challengers in the Sunshine State’s upcoming gubernatorial race, a Saint Leo University survey released this week found.

DeSantis, who has continued to ignore leftist critics and pursue policies empowering individuals and parents alike, is soundly defeating his potential opposition by double digits.

In a potential matchup against Rep. Charlie Crist (D-FL), for example, DeSantis leads by 16 percentage points — 49 percent to Crist’s 33 percent.

Similarly, DeSantis crushes one of his most outspoken opponents, Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried (D), by 24 percent, or 51 percent to her 27 percent support:

Notably, Fried is among the dishonest leftists who have continued to spread misinformation about the Parental Rights in Education Bill, which DeSantis signed this week. The legislation itself protects young children by barring classroom discussions on sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten and first-,  second-, and third-grade classrooms. However, leftists turned the bill into a mantra — “Don’t Say Gay” — even though it does not single out any sexual orientation, nor does it ban any specific words or phrases. It simply keeps age-inappropriate discussions on those matters out of those classrooms.

Both Fried and Crist, however, have continued to spread the lie, as have other Democrats.

DeSantis has continued to blast critics of the bill.

“These leftist politicians, corporate media outlets, some of these activist groups, they actually have read the bill, and they’re sloganeering because they don’t want to admit that they support a lot of the things we’re providing protections against,” DeSantis said this week, adding that they “support sexualizing kids in kindergarten.”

“And so what they’re doing with these slogans and these narrative is they’re trying to camouflage their true intentions,” he added.

COMMENT: He is so right, and he says it so well. The coming election will be largely about parenthood, and the rights of parents in raising their children. DeSantis has large public support for his pro-family positions.  He talks about the things families care about, and they will support him.

"The left needs two things to survive. It needs mediocrity, and it needs dependence. It nurtures mediocrity in the public schools and the universities. It nurtures dependence through its empire of government programs. A nation that embraces mediocrity and dependence betrays itself, and can only fade away, wondering all the time what might have been."
