GOP ROMPS ON EDUCATION – OVERNIGHT: Who would have believed it? Historically, the Democrats have been known as the education party. They'd cornered the market. Why, wasn't it true that all people who read books were Democrats? All teachers? All college professors? We all knew that Republicans only read balance sheets and instruction manuals for Chevy pickups. Or maybe something on the history of the NFL. But wait. Something's happening. Hard to believe it, but the GOP has drunk the intellectual Kool-Aid. MIracles happen. From Breitbart:

Democrat extremism and the ongoing implosion of America’s government-run school system have given Republicans a seven-point advantage on who can better handle the issue of education.

Rasmussen asked 1,000 likely voters, “Who do you trust more to deal with education issues. Democrats or Republicans?” Only 36 percent said Democrats, while 43 percent said Republicans. Eighteen percent said the two parties are “about the same.”

What should worry Democrats most of all is that only 34 percent of women chose Democrats, while 42 percent chose the GOP. That’s an eight-point gap. A plurality of 45 percent of black voters chose Democrats, while a whopping 31 percent chose Republicans. Normally, those numbers would be something like 80 percent for Democrats and 11 percent for Republicans.

Even 12 percent of Democrats chose the GOP on education, as did a plurality of 42 percent of Independents. Only 25 percent of Independents chose Democrats.

Historically, education has been a top issue for Democrats, a winning issue, but the tables have turned since Democrats began to openly embrace the worst kind of corrupting and perverse extremism. Democrats backed closing government-run schools throughout much of the pandemic. Democrats favor the anti-science and cruel masking of kids. Democrats support teaching kids gay porn. Democrats support teaching white kids they are racist oppressors and black kids they have no chance of success in America.

Democrats want to sexualize and groom kids, teach them to fail, teach them to hate the greatest country in the history of the world, teach them everything but the basics required to make a living.

In this same poll, a massive majority of 84 percent said that in the upcoming congressional elections, education would be “very” (53 percent) or “somewhat” (31 percent) important. Only 13 percent said “not very” (12 percent) or “not at all” (1 percent) important.

When asked, “Is the quality of public schools in America getting better or worse?” A clear majority of 58 percent said “worse,” while only 13 percent said “better.”

COMMENT: The mothers' revolt started in Virginia, and the Republicans took advantage of it. The Dems ran against the mothers. The Dems are unemployed. The Dems still don't understand that mothers are important, and that mothers want the best schools for their kids. The Dems are asking, "What's a mother?" Like their Supreme Court nominee, who can't define "woman," the Dems can't define "mother." And they can't define "literacy."

The GOP has a supermarket filled with great issues. Now they must exploit them, and not make the same old Republican mistake – giving up before the race even starts. I think the party is past that. I'm already buying my popcorn for election night.

SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT:

GIMMICK ALERT:   We seem to be cruising to a solid victory in November.  But, at the same time, we wonder if the Dems have anything up their unisex sleeves that could turn things around. This week gave me my first scare. Governor Gavin Newsom of California suggested that Californians be given relief from soaring gasoline prices through a tax rebate. We can rage at this fraud – not solving the energy problem but repaying Americans with their own tax money to cover their inflated prices and win votes for Democrats in November – but it may work. It will mean more borrowing for our already squeezed country, but who cares?  Let the good times roll! If Americans can go into the election getting paid back for higher energy prices, they may well vote for the guys who wrote the checks.  There's nothing happier for the average voter than getting "free" money from the government. I'm hearing stories that other blue-state governors are interested in the sham. Ah, for the good old days of big-city machines. They got us stop signs, you know.

THE EDSEL OF PRESIDENTS – OVERNIGHT: President Biden is in Europe while a war is going on.  Okay, now that you're scared to death, take a pill. Try to watch a light movie in the morning.

The president, and I say this with regret, is not handling things well.  From Yahoo:

President Joe Biden’s Saturday speech mentioning that Vladimir Putin “cannot remain in power” is getting strong reactions on cable news, with the administration later saying his comment was not about changing regimes or overthrowing the government.

Biden said in his speech Saturday that Putin is “a dictator bent on rebuilding an empire” and that Ukraine will “never be a victory for Russia.” “For God’s sake, this man cannot remain in power,” Biden continued.

A White House official later retracted those comments, clarifying that the president was not suggesting a regime change or overthrow of Russia. “The president’s point was that Putin cannot be allowed to exercise power over his neighbors or the region. He was not discussing Putin’s power in Russia, or regime change,” the official said in an email to The Hill.

That's ridiculous. His words were perfectly clear.

President Biden’s comments “caught a lot of people off guard,” and “raised questions” about whether there’s been a change to U.S. policy toward “removing President Putin from office,” Josh Lederman of MSNBC reacted.

Fox News’s Eric Shawn later asked on air, “Do you think in that speech that the president was calling for regime change, basically signaling the Russians and the oligarchs to push Putin out?”

Fox contributor Rebecca Grant responded to Shawn, “That was a stunning remark by Biden. I think that’s unprecedented in U.S-Russian diplomatic history. That puts U.S.-Russo relations in the deep freeze. It was a huge and stunning revelation.”

“Absolutely. He did call for regime change. Let’s see if the State Department or White House tries to walk that back later or not,” Grant added.

COMMENT: When professionals play this game, they don't make that kind of mistake. But the press is being kind to Biden, which will be at our expense. Harris is unseen. That's a plus for us.

"The left needs two things to survive. It needs mediocrity, and it needs dependence. It nurtures mediocrity in the public schools and the universities. It nurtures dependence through its empire of government programs. A nation that embraces mediocrity and dependence betrays itself, and can only fade away, wondering all the time what might have been."
