SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT:

THE MOST IMPORTANT STORY IN THE WORLD – FROM FOX:    Media critic Joe Concha sounded off Friday after the MLB's Cleveland Indians decided after more than 100 years to change their name to the "Cleveland Guardians."  Concha told "Hannity" that it is clear the move was made to appease left-wing political groups but added that there had been little objection to the name until recently.  "If the term Indians is so overtly racist, how did it survive for a century?" Concha asked, adding that White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki's defense of the name change was further revealing.  "They are so afraid of the woke mob in their own party," he said of the Democrats.  Host Tammy Bruce remarked that the most vocal opponents of the Indians' name likely don't even follow baseball.  Concha added that the move may spell doom for other mascots like the Kansas City Chiefs of the NFL, the Florida State University Seminoles and the Atlanta Braves.  "Or, maybe it's just a symbol of pride and tradition; celebrating Indian culture."  In that regard, he remarked that it is clear what the left-wing "woke" mob will target next in professional sports: The New York Jets.  The Jets, who share a stadium with the intracity rival Giants in East Rutherford, N.J., could ostensibly come under fire because they are named for passenger airliners, he said.  Yes, those evil passenger liners ruining the climate.  And those fools in business class, destroying the world.  You know, crime is soaring in America, children are being murdered by the carload every day, and maybe we should concentrate on that rather than the names of football teams.

OUR GUYS ARE DOING THE JOB – OVERNIGHT:  The nation is at a crossroads, especially in the way we educate our children.   But the good guys are fighting back against the lunatic ideas that are flooding our schools.  From Epoch Times:

Despite growing opposition to critical race theory (CRT) and a growing number of states passing laws to ban it from classrooms, education and teachers’ unions are vowing to teach the controversial subject matter anyway. But one outspoken Florida mom says it’s time to “fight fire with fire.”

“I think parents have realized you have to fight fire with fire,” Quisha King told the Epoch Times.

“You have to be as strong, as forceful, and as unrelenting as they are.”

King is the Florida mother who gained notoriety when she blasted the Duval County school board with strong opposition to CRT. In response to the National Education Association’s threat to go after those who dared oppose CRT, King said “bring it on.”

In an effort to help citizens fight back against the behemoth education system, Tea Party Patriots Action (TPPA) is now distributing a 46-page booklet (pdf) teaching parents and students how to get organized in their effort to fight back.

As described on its website, “the United We Stand toolkit is part of TPPA’s campaign to encourage people to attend their local school board meetings to oppose CRT, and to urge a full return to in-classroom instruction.”

“I think it’s good to help parents understand how to recognize (CRT) and how to detect it because they don’t really understand how it’s being worked into the system,” King said. “It’s a great, handy guide so they’re armed with something.”

“I think we need more things like that,” she added, saying she has also tried to help parents by creating informative videos.

“We encourage every parent and concerned citizen who cares about the future of our country to attend their local school board meeting, learn what is going on locally, and ensure schools are fully open,” TPPA Honorary Chairman Jenny Beth Martin said in a statement regarding their new anti-CRT campaign. “Teachers should be teaching reading, writing, arithmetic, and history without indoctrination.”

“I think there’s a sense of urgency with this because kids are in school for 12 years or 13 years if you include kindergarten,” Martin explained to The Epoch Times. “I don’t think it’s fair to wait just for the elections. We’ve got to understand what’s happening and work to unwind it at a policy level as well.”

“Obviously the first thing is to start going to school board meetings,” Vero Beach, Florida, activist Susan Mehiel told The Epoch Times. “The second thing is to start electing school board members who are true to their word.”

According to Mehiel, people need to start electing “non-teaching people on those boards,” rather than repeatedly pulling from the same barrel of rotten apples. She also suggests people establish a good relationship with their local representatives.

COMMENT:  A good approach.  I think it's clear that the political left learned over the years that they could not win nationally, or even in state elections, unless they started taking over local institutions, which would give them a base.  It's also clear that they've concentrated on school boards, with the obvious intent of influencing the young generation.  One of the most common comments we hear these days from people on our side, about their school boards is, "I thought these were our neighbors."  Now, thanks to the new activism by conservative parents, school boards are at the center of political discussion...and combat.

SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT:

ARE THE KIDS BRIGHTER THAN WE THINK? – FROM POWERLINE:    The youth of America may not be as clueless as the more pessimistic among us suppose. According to a new survey by College Pulse, 67 percent of college students strongly support “race blind” admissions.  Another 18 percent “somewhat support” such admissions.  This leaves only 15 percent who oppose race blind admissions. Of that group, only 5 percent strongly oppose them.  The survey defines race blind admissions as meaning that “colleges and universities would not be able to take a student’s race or ethnicity into account in their admissions decisions.” That’s the obvious definition.  Among Blacks surveyed, 75 percent support race blind admissions, either strongly or somewhat. Only 10 percent said they strongly oppose this. Thus, even the intended beneficiaries of race-conscious admissions are against them.  College Pulse surveyed slightly more than 2,000 students from 113 colleges and universities. Participants were drawn from its database of more than 400,000 students from more than 1,000 states. The margin of error is +/- 2.5 percent.  I'd be cautious and wait to see if other polls support this encouraging revolt.  And...much depends on how the questions are asked.

DOWNWARD, DOWNWARD, FOR CNN – FROM BREITBART:   A town hall put on by CNN featuring President Joe Biden failed to shake up cable ratings on Wednesday night as the left-leaning network sat in the shadows of Fox News and MSNBC for primetime hours.  The town hall, which was moderated by CNN anchor Don Lemon and garnered just a little more than half the amount of the total viewers Fox News had at the same time, finished third in ratings for Wednesday night, falling just behind MSNBC.  According to Deadline, which reported on the latest ratings from Nielsen, CNN’s town hall drew in 1.46 million viewers between 8:00 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. as Biden spoke in Cincinnati. As reported by Deadline, that is “down significantly from CNN’s town hall with Biden in February, which drew 3.5 million viewers” and outpaced the audience on Fox News and MSNBC.  During that same 74-minute time frame on Wednesday, Fox News received an average of 2.76 million viewers for Tucker Carlson Tonight and a portion of Hannity, which was putting on a town hall event with Florida Republicans, including Gov. Ron DeSantis, Sen. Marco Rubio, and Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar to discuss the Cuban protests.  CNN has lost its credibility with viewers.  The network went much too far with its anti-Trump act.  Getting that credibility back may well be impossible, as CNN is doing nothing to heal itself.

THE UGLY RACIAL WARS – AGAIN – OVERNIGHT:   It's something we really don't want to acknowledge, but we have to.  Thanks to the hard left, America is being racially divided in ways we haven't seen in our lifetime.  The apparent goal of the professional crazies is to split the nation, setting group against group, leading to the end of the United States.  Let's face it, the hard left never had any use for the American Constitution.   They're fine with the Cuban model or the Soviet experiment.  Ah, for the good old days.   Lunch with Comrade Castro, dinner with Comrade Khrushchev.  Who could ask for anything more?  From Fox:

The Biden administration's U.S. Department of Education is "as far left as they come," former Secretary Betsy DeVos said Thursday, after the Cabinet department promoted a radical activist group's handbook that advocates for educators to "disrupt Whiteness" and accuses the U.S. educational system of the "spirit murder" of "Black, Brown and Indigenous children."

Within the Abolitionist Teaching Network's "Guide for Racial Justice & Abolitionist Social and Emotional Learning" handbook, the group calls "Whiteness" a form of oppression, and its cornerstone program, called Activists in Residence, pays professional agitators $30,000 per year, working 20 hours per week, to lead "abolitionist educational organizing in their respective cities," according to its website.

After the citation was brought up during a briefing, White House press secretary Jen Psaki claimed its inclusion was erroneous.

"We don't endorse the recommendations of this group," she said.

DeVos told "The Story" that Psaki wasn't being forthright, adding that someone high-up in the Department of Education, led by former Connecticut State Education Commissioner Miguel Cardona, had to sign off on the promotion of the group.

"This notion that it was a mistake is an absolute falsehood," said DeVos, who served under President Trump. "Having been there at the department for four years and working through the approval processes for anything that is put out from the department, I know full well that there are eyes on and full knowledge of this going on."

"We saw earlier this year, the grant process the department put out that basically was trying to bribe schools into using the 1619 Project in their materials," she added. "So this is just another reflection of the true nature of the Biden Department of Education."

DeVos' claim was echoed by one House lawmaker who agreed the White House appears supportive of left-wing curricula.

"Surely there must be leaders in the Biden administration who support critical race theory, and they want to use the schools to indoctrinate our children, that is very concerning," Rep. Vicky Hartzler, R-Mo., a former schoolteacher, told Fox News earlier Thursday.

COMMENT:  I suspect there are those in the Biden administration who would like to go much further.  There are some real nuts in this government.  Whether they can go further is iffy, but never underestimate the treachery of a hard Marxist.  Today Portland, tomorrow the world.

"The left needs two things to survive. It needs mediocrity, and it needs dependence. It nurtures mediocrity in the public schools and the universities. It nurtures dependence through its empire of government programs. A nation that embraces mediocrity and dependence betrays itself, and can only fade away, wondering all the time what might have been."
