SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT:

THIS ISN'T WHAT THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT IS ABOUT – FROM FOX:    The state of New York said it will prioritize non-White people in the distribution of COVID-19 treatments in short supply.  New York’s Department of Health released a document detailing their plan to distribute the treatments, such as monoclonal antibody treatment and antiviral pills.  The plan includes a section on eligibility for the scarce antiviral pills that people must meet to receive the treatment, including a line stating a person needs to have "a medical condition or other factors that increase their risk for severe illness." One such "risk factor" is being a race or ethnicity that is not White due to "longstanding systemic health and social inequities"  "Non-white race or Hispanic/Latino ethnicity should be considered a risk factor, as longstanding systemic health and social inequities have contributed to an increased risk of severe illness and death from COVID-19," the memo reads.  The Empire State's plan received backlash online for discriminating based on ethnicity and skin color.  This cannot stand.  There can be some reasonable medical adjustments, but clearly favoring one race over another violates the most profound beliefs of our society.  Just don't do it.

OFF AND PUNCHING – OVERNIGHT:  It didn't take long for the Republicans to start their 2022 campaign.  They took off the gloves as the calendar was changing.  From Fox:

Republican House leadership took to Twitter on Saturday morning to wish their followers a happy new year and had a message for House Democrats ahead of the midterm elections in November.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., wasted no time taking a shot at his political rival, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., with a graphic of her that said "Lame duck speaker."

House Minority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., wished his followers a "Happy New Year" and then laid out his goals for the upcoming year, saying he looks "forward to spending this year fighting for hardworking families, working with my colleagues to stand up against the Biden agenda, and taking back the House in November!"

Another member of the Republican House leadership, Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., tweeted a "happy, healthy, and blessed #NewYear!" to her constituents. Hours earlier she tweeted a thread recapping 2021 and then tweeted about how the crises under the Biden administration can be reversed.

"The only way to STOP #Bidenflation and the Far-Left Democrats’ agenda from hurting small businesses and families even more is to vote Republican next November," Stefanik tweeted. "2022 will be the year we #FIREPelosi once and for all!"

COMMENT:   That's what I like to see on our side, some real fight, not the old gentlemanly Republicans who got used to losing.  While we're in a good position politically, this year's battles will be raw and tough.  The Dems will fight for every seat, and the smears of "racist" and "anti-woman" will soon be taken out of storage.  Karl Rove was on TV today, and his predictions of Republican victory were far more modest and restrained than the assurances of others that it's all in the bag.

Remember – the Dems control the Department of Justice.  They have sympathetic judges in many jurisdictions, a legacy of Barack Obama.  Don't be shocked if they use the justice system as a political club.  Truth will not be a requirement.

SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT:

NOW THAT'S A GOOD MOM – FROM FOX:   Minnesota investigators looking for a man captured on surveillance video allegedly knocking an elderly woman down while trying to snatch her purse as she walked into a Walgreens were tipped off as to the identity of the man by his own mother.  Isaiah Jamal Foster, 18, of Richfield, was already in the Ramsey County Jail in connection with a Tuesday carjacking of a woman and her young child, the St Paul Police Department said. His mother called the police and turned her son in to authorities, a police spokesperson told Fox News.  Now he faces first-degree aggravated attempted robbery and third-degree assault resulting in substantial bodily harm for the Dec. 23 robbery outside the convenience store.  Security video from inside the Walgreens shows patrons entering. As an 81-year-old woman walks inside, a man is seen behind her ripping a purse out of her hands. As she tries to hold on, she's violently dragged to the ground.  It must be awful for a mother to turn in her own child, but she did the right thing.  I assume she is under protection, if the authorities in liberal Minnesota even know of such a thing.

THE INDICTMENT – OVERNIGHT:  WELL, 2021 IS HISTORY, AND NOT A CHEERFUL PART OF IT.   OUR NEW NATIONAL ADMINISTRATION HAS BEEN A CATASTROPHE, AND IT IS WISE TO REMIND OURSELVES OF THE DEEP NATURE OF THAT DISASTER.   FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER:

President Joe Biden's inaugural address pledged to "repair our alliances and engage with the world once again." The United States, Biden proclaimed, would "be a strong and trusted partner for peace, progress, and security."

This has not happened. Instead, Biden's foreign policy has oscillated between chaos and weakness.

The Afghanistan debacle looms largest here. In March, Biden said that when it came to withdrawing U.S. military forces, "we’re going to do so in a safe and orderly way." He explained, "We’re in consultation ... with our allies and partners in how to proceed."

That did not happen. Instead, Biden insisted, against military advice and basic logic, on withdrawing all U.S. forces from Afghanistan. This meant the departure of 2,500 troops and associated contractors who were providing Afghan security forces with irreplaceable logistics, maintenance, intelligence, and air support. With the U.S. in full flight, the Afghan military quickly collapsed. The Afghan political class retreated in fear and disorder. The Taliban stormed toward Kabul. The terrible scenes from Kabul's international airport were the result of Biden's poor planning.

Top U.S. allies were ignored when they begged Biden to extend the Aug. 31 withdrawal deadline. The truth is that thousands of Americans and tens of thousands of Afghan allies were abandoned by a president who ultimately cared nothing for "a safe and orderly" evacuation.

The video of desperate Afghans flying off the wheels of fleeing U.S. Air Force transports will always be a symbol of Biden's foreign policy legacy, as will the deaths of 13 courageous Americans standing a final watch to protect the ignominious and chaotic rout that Biden forced.

Meanwhile, Biden's post-withdrawal plans for an "over-the-horizon" counterterrorism strategy are a fiction, as his generals have admitted. The retaliatory drone strike — supposedly against terrorists, but actually killing an aid worker and several children — testifies to the fact that Biden's over-the-horizon vision is a contradiction in terms.

The big picture is worse still — China's Xi Jinping, Russia's Vladimir Putin, and Iran's Ayatollah Ali Khamenei have come to recognize, from all of this avoidable chaos, Biden's callous ineptitude.

COMMENT:  Wonderfully said.  Please read the rest.  Be reminded of what we're against, and why it is imperative that our side win the 2022 midterm elections.  We are talking about saving what is left of this country's international standing.

"The left needs two things to survive. It needs mediocrity, and it needs dependence. It nurtures mediocrity in the public schools and the universities. It nurtures dependence through its empire of government programs. A nation that embraces mediocrity and dependence betrays itself, and can only fade away, wondering all the time what might have been."
