SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT:

TRUE? – FROM RASMUSSEN:    The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll, Sponsored by SLANTED from Sharyl Attkisson, for Monday shows that 49% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of President Trump’s job performance. Fifty-one percent (50%) disapprove.  The latest figures include 36% who Strongly Approve of the job Trump is doing and 40% who Strongly Disapprove. This gives him a Presidential Approval Index rating of -4.   These figures may appear out of whack with other polls, and may be, but Rasmussen has a good record of accuracy.  It's possible, and this is speculation, that Trump could be benefiting from a sympathy vote.

BACK AGAIN ON THE BESTSELLER LIST – FROM DAILYWIRE:   “Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.” — GEORGE ORWELL, “1984”

Twitter has banned President Donald Trump. Google, Amazon, and Apple shut down Parler, a conservative social media site. No one knows what’s true or false anymore. And the language police are running rampant, with lawmakers on Capitol Hill going so far as to ban words like “father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister.”  So, it makes perfect sense that Orwell’s famous book “1984” is once again the best-selling book on Amazon.  Orwell, whose real name was Eric Arthur Blair, wrote the book in 1949, his last completed novel before his death.  An opponent of totalitarianism, Orwell served in the Loyalist forces in the Spanish Civil War. And as fascism began to sweep the world, he was inspired to write a novel about what would happen should it win.  Orwell is coming true.  So is Ronald Reagan, when he warned us that "freedom is a fragile thing and is never more than one generation away from extinction. It is not ours by inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people.  Those who have known freedom and then lost it have never known it again."

ONE DOWN – OVERNIGHT:  PBS has discarded a nut case who was caught on tape making vile comments.  One small step for man.  From Daily Caller:

PBS is distancing itself from a former employee featured in a Project Veritas video who appeared to defend violent attacks on the White House, proposed re-education for the children of President Donald Trump supporters, and praised the COVID-19 deaths of GOP voters.

“This employee no longer works for PBS,” a PBS spokesperson told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “As a mid-level staff attorney, he did not speak on behalf of our organization, nor did he make any editorial decisions.”

“There is no place for hateful rhetoric at PBS, and this individual’s views in no way reflect our values or opinions,” the spokesperson said. “We strongly condemn violence and will continue to do what we have done for 50 years — use our national platform and local presence to strengthen communities and bring people together.”

PBS did not clarify to the DCNF whether the employee was fired as a result of the video. Project Veritas tweeted Tuesday afternoon that former PBS principal counsel Michael Beller had been fired.

COMMENT:  It's hard to think of much good coming out of the current orgy in Washington, but there is some outside possibility that the left will realize it will be more closely scrutinized and may not be able to get away with its usual disgraceful behavior.  That is a wish.

THE FLOOD – AT 8:16 P.M. ET:  Look, we're flooded with news, or what passes for news.  We are inundated with comments, many from half-brained politicians, analyzed for us by quarter-brained journalists.  I spend most of my time reading, just to keep up, and give the impression to you, our readers, that I actually know what I'm writing about.  Sometimes I do.

You know what's going on.  You keep up.  So I thought I would just give you this.  Frankly, I think it's the most interesting story of the day.  From Fox:

CNN announced Tuesday that it would pull the plug on its long-running Airport Network, causing jubilation among many of the network's critics on social media.

Network President Jeff Zucker announced the CNN Airport Network will officially end on March 31, citing a "deep decline in airport traffic because of COVID-19, coupled with all the new ways that people are consuming content on their personal devices."

"Having to say goodbye to such a beloved brand is not easy," Zucker wrote. "I want to thank our friends and colleagues who have contributed to its success and to celebrate the fact that for 30 years, the CNN Airport Network has kept millions of domestic travelers informed. It has also become an iconic part of the traveling experience in this country."

Oh really?

For years, CNN critics mocked the anti-Trump network for heavily relying on airport travelers for its viewership, which had cratered for much of the Trump presidency.

"Best. news. EVER," NewsBusters managing editor Curtis Houck declared on Twitter.

"Wtf I love COVID now ..." Spectator USA editor Amber Athey joked.

"2021 is looking up already," Daily Wire senior editor Emily Zanotti wrote.

"CNN has just forfeited 95 percent of its viewership," conservative commentator Matt Walsh quipped.

COMMENT:  I am immediately moving to an airport.  I can live on those airport benches.  I've spent hours on them.  As long as they keep the food concessions open, I'll be happy.

Free of CNN, free of CNN!  Thank God, Almighty, I'm free of CNN!

SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT:

SABOTAGE – FROM FOX:  The U.S. State Department’s official website drew widespread scrutiny Monday after official biographies for President Trump and Vice President Pence were edited to note that their terms in office would end Monday evening.  The edited messages appeared on both pages for a short period before they were taken offline. The messages were visible online as Democrats continued their push to impeach Trump for his role in instigating riots at the U.S. Capitol last week over the results of the 2020 presidential election.  "Donald J. Trump's term ended on 2021-01-11 19:49:00," the message on Trump’s bio page read. Pence’s page displayed a nearly identical message.  State Department officials have yet to comment. However, Buzzfeed News reported that a "disgruntled employee" was responsible for the changes, citing interviews with two active diplomats.  Sec. of State Mike Pompeo ordered an internal investigation to determine how the changes were made, according to the report.  Trump’s and Pence’s terms in office are set to end on Jan. 20, when President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris are formally inaugurated as their successors. However, lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have pushed for Trump to leave the White House before Inauguration Day.  Reminding us that Deep State really does exist.

THIS COULD BE IMPORTANT – AT 11:30 P.M. ET:  The fanatical onslaught against President Trump by tech companies has attracted the attention of a major foreign leader.  From the New York Post:

German Chancellor Angela Merkel considers it “problematic” that Twitter would toss President Trump off its social media platform, saying through a spokesmen Monday that the president’s ability to express his opinion is a fundamental right of “elementary significance.”

“This fundamental right can be intervened in, but according to the law and within the framework defined by legislators — not according to a decision by the management of social media platforms,” Merkel spokesman Steffen Seibert told reporters in Berlin.

“Seen from this angle, the chancellor considers it problematic that the accounts of the U.S. president have now been permanently blocked,” he added.

Twitter permanently banned Trump’s Twitter account last Friday citing “the risk of further incitement of violence” — two days after a mob of his supporters stormed the Capitol.

But for weeks the social media platform had tagged the president’s tweets about the Nov. 3 presidential election.

COMMENT:  When influential foreign leaders start noticing the erosion of our democratic principles, that's news.  How long will it take for these leaders to start throwing Twitter out of their own countries on grounds that it's a threat to their democracies as well?  Merkel's statement should be seized upon by the pro-free-speech forces here and hurled against the censors.  Maybe they'll wake up and realize what can happen to them all over the world.

AND NOW THEY COME FOR TEACHERS – AT 6:45 P.M. ET:  Cancel culture is on the march.  No one escapes.  From RedState:

On Wednesday, a crowd of American citizens estimated to exceed 100,000 gathered in Washington, DC, to peacefully assemble and listen to a speech from the President of the United States. All but a handful of the attendees dispersed peacefully. Nothing done by the people who carried the demonstration into the US Capitol takes away from the legality and propriety of attending a political rally headlined by the president.

But if you were a teacher in Jefferson County, WV, you just found out that it doesn’t matter if the voters in the county voted overwhelmingly to reelect President Trump, all it takes to put your livelihood in jeopardy is to have a school superintendent who is totally unacquainted with the US Constitution, and your job is in jeopardy.

Nearly 30 teachers in Jefferson County, West Virginia who attended the rally at the Capitol in Washington DC on Wednesday are now being threatened with termination.

A letter was sent to the teachers by the Jefferson County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Bondy Shay Gibson. In the letter, the teachers are told to report to a meeting on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 where disciplinary action, including termination, will be discussed. The teachers are encouraged to bring a representative with them. The teachers were also told to not enter any Jefferson County School’s property or attend any school activity.

According to another source, this is what the letter said:

“I was made aware that you took part in the Electoral College protest that erupted into deadly violence on January 6, 2021. I have reviewed disturbing videos and photographs posted that tagged you on a public social media page, which included threatening and demeaning statements regarding federal government officials.”

The letters went on to say, “I understand that many community members are upset by these images. Accordingly, I have determined that you are on administrative leave with pay effective immediately pending additional investigation.”

The letter went on to indicate that the employees should schedule a meeting Tuesday with Gibson and bring a representative as disciplinary action including “the termination of your employment” is possible.

This threat is patently illegal. It doesn’t matter who in “the community” had their knickers knotted by images; being upset does not give you a heckler’s veto. Attending a political rally is a constitutionally protected activity. Unless Superintendent Bondy Shay Gibson has evidence that someone was involved in a criminal act, she is clearly carrying out political intimidation.

COMMENT:  There will be more.  Cancel culture also includes intimidation culture.  It isn't only the people who'll be fired during this current terror who count, it's also the people who are frightened into silence.

Civilizations don't die, said a historian.  They commit suicide.

"The left needs two things to survive. It needs mediocrity, and it needs dependence. It nurtures mediocrity in the public schools and the universities. It nurtures dependence through its empire of government programs. A nation that embraces mediocrity and dependence betrays itself, and can only fade away, wondering all the time what might have been."
