SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT:

THE LEFT AND MADNESS, TOGETHER AGAIN! – OVERNIGHT:  The journalistic home of Britain's loony left, the Guardian, shows us how things work among the champions of Lenin and socialized root canal.   From dailywire:   Readers of the British newspaper, The Guardian, are accusing the outlet of deactivating an online poll that asked readers to vote on “Person of the Year” after it became apparent that J.K. Rowling would handily win.  “Tell us: who is your 2021 person of the year?” ran the headline, posted on Dec. 15, with the subtitle, “Time Magazine chose billionaire Tesla boss Elon Musk – but who would be your choice?” A short time later, when Rowling was far and away in the lead, the voting form disappeared along with the results to that point. A message in small print stated, “This form has been deactivated and is closed to any further submissions.”  Rowling has been at the center of numerous cancel culture storms this year for her refusal to deny the reality of biological sex.  Now the totalitarians have come for the polls.  I fear for the future of MAGA hats, a threat to democracy.

PATHETIC – NO WAY TO END 2021, BUT LEAVE IT TO THE LEFT – OVERNIGHT.  The nutbags of the left were wounded in 2021, especially in Virginia.  But don't underestimate their ability to stay alive and do as much harm as possible.  From Daily Mail:

The federal case against an Antifa rioter from Portland accused of assaulting police officers was dropped after she completed just 30 hours of community service.

Eva Warner, who is transgender and was formerly named Joshua, was charged with felony civil disorder in September 2020 after she was arrested three times during Antifa riots in August.

Warner, 26, would have faced a maximum sentence of five years in federal prison if convicted.

U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon Scott Erik Asphaug filed a motion on December 21, asking the court to 'dismiss with prejudice the indictment against (Warner), in the best interests of justice.'

The motion noted that Warren had 'successfully complied with the terms of the Defendant Resolution Agreement, including performing at least 30 hours of community service.

U.S. District Court Judge Michael H. Simon dismissed the indictment with prejudice the next day, according to court documents. Dismissal with prejudice means that the plaintiff cannot refile the same claim again in that court.

Portland erupted in protests and riots that lasted months as the nation debated race and policing in the wake of the George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor killings.

Officials declared a riot at the Portland Police Association office on August 8, 2020 after Antifa members shattered the windows and set the office on fire, the United States Department of Justice reported.

The rioters also used vehicles and dumpsters to illegally block nearby vehicle traffic.

COMMENT:  How brilliant.  Now every potential rioter in the People's Republic of Portland knows that rioting isn't really taken seriously.  Hey, let's burn down the precinct.  Blame it on Trump.

Happy New Year.

SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT:

COMEBACK FOR SARAH? – OVERNIGHT:  Sarah Palin is considering a return to politics.  Some will cheer.  Some will not.  From Mediaite:   Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) said Wednesday she was interested in the prospect of getting involved in elective politics once again, saying she had a “service heart.”  “You’re a very popular personality,” Newsmax’s Eric Bolling told Palin in an evening interview, adding that she was “a very popular politician” and asking, “Do you have aspirations to get back into elected office or anything more in politics?”  “I would love to,” Palin replied. “I would never say never… I feel like there are still some offerings that I have in terms of a service heart. I want to serve. I want to help the people. And I think I have a heck of a lot of common sense, and that’s what we need today. And I’m not so obsessively partisan that I let that get in the way of doing what’s right for the people.”  Bolling reacted with intrigue. “Hmm,” he mused, “Stay tuned, in other words, folks.”  Palin, 57, served as Alaska’s governor from 2006-09. She began her term in that position with around 90 percent of state voters approving of her performance, but that number plummeted after the late Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) selected her as his presidential running mate in 2008. She resigned the subsequent year, citing the cost and burden associated with combating numerous legal challenges and complaints prompted by her rise to fame.  Look, you never know.  I have doubts that she's all that popular, and many voters won't even remember her.  She was never ready, when John McCain selected her, for a national campaign.  She'd have to demonstrate that she' s ready now.  Tough challenge.  The Republican bench is already deep.

THEY FORGOT TO CHANGE THE BATTERIES IN THE CALCULATOR – OVERNIGHT:  You know how these cheap Asian calculators can just fail.  It happens at every level.  From Daily Mail:

The impact that the Omicron variant has had on the nation's skyrocketing instances of Covid infections may have been completely overblown after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention slashed its estimate for the prevalence of the strain in COVID-19 cases by 50 percent on Tuesday.

The agency released a revised chart on Tuesday showing that the new variant accounted for 23 percent of all cases for the week ending on December 18, as opposed to the 73 percent it originally reported.

The chart showed that the Omicron variant accounted for 59 percent of all new cases for the week ending on December 25, meaning the Delta variant has been accounting for far more infections than the agency initially thought.

The CDC corrected its error, to the confusion of many, on the same day that the nation broke its record for the most daily COVID-19 cases with a seven-day average of 254,496 cases reported on Tuesday, according to a DailyMail.com analysis of Johns Hopkins University data.

The country's previous record was about 251,989 daily cases, reported on January 11.

The record comes as the US hit a total of 53,170,421 cases as of Wednesday morning, amid a growing number of people who were tested before and after Christmas weekend.

The CDC’s new data on the prevalence of the Omicron variant shows that the Delta variant, which is more severe and less contagious than Omicron, still has a hold on the country and is a driving factor behind the most current surge in cases.

It also begs the question of how the CDC could have recorded such a drastic difference in the strain’s prevalence than what was the reality.

COMMENT:  With mistakes like this, is it any wonder why Americans are confused, outraged, and angry?  We're talking about human life.  We're talking about the health of the nation.  But, not to worry.  Some of the major news outlets will get rid of this story in a day.  Count on it.

What mistake?

"The left needs two things to survive. It needs mediocrity, and it needs dependence. It nurtures mediocrity in the public schools and the universities. It nurtures dependence through its empire of government programs. A nation that embraces mediocrity and dependence betrays itself, and can only fade away, wondering all the time what might have been."
